After being without a mixer for a year and a half, I finally picked up the ball and have sewn together volume two for Torch Song, a sentimental heavy-handed barrage of romantic music and generous reverb. Kindly walk with me once more down that familiar road that is all at once both joy and melancholy. If You enjoyed Volume One you should feel at home listening to this new installment.
All the selections contained herein are deeply personal and evoke strong emotion each time I hear them. I’ve included a favorite from last year, Abel Tesfaye’s cover of Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’. This seventy minute mix runs the genre gamut as per my usual no-holds-barred approach to selection. The one moment within this mix that reveals a glimpse into my soul is where Freddie and Montserrat belt out and surrender their last chorus to Cliff Richard (who by the way, always makes me feel as though I’m back in Manhattan whenever I hear his voice.) Best listened to at some off or wee hour when you’re notpressed for time, this short mix is a sentimental daydream best accompanied by good headphones, a cold libation, perhaps when you are drawing a nice warm bath or maybe with your morning coffee (go ahead and add that shot of Baileys or Frangelico for me.)
