Hi it’s me…Daren B

Currently presenting on HHCR Community Radio, Trax Fm & Love Soul Radio London, JFSR and Camp Soul Radio.

The slightly over enthusiastic evil lovechild of Alan Partridge and the local bingo caller!

My earliest recollection of loving music was listening to my parents LP’s with Stevie Wonder’s Masterblaster on repeat, a few years later I remember clearly walking into the local ‘Our Price’ and asking for the song playing in store “Rufus & Chaka Khan – Ain’t nobody” & really splashed the cash as I picked up “Nu-Shooz – Can’t wait” both on 7” and from that point on I was set, whilst the 80’s musical revolution was in full flow.

I just didn’t warm to the likes of Culture Club, Spandau Ballet and the like…for me it was the Funky, Soulful, Disco music that would be played very loudly at our family home in Bracknell. The interest in playing to an audience begun with the relationship I built with the resident DJ at the local Ice Rink with the cliqued “What does that do? How do you do that? Etc.” and before long I was thrown into the deep end as he moved abroad and I was left holding the mic, tape players and two 1210’s hosting two disco sessions a week and as the rather unconventional Ice Hockey announcer.

With an abundance of awful gigs with hired gear and those dreadful twin belt drive decks, lamps that would pop the rooms main circuit board! We’ve all been there… However there have been a lot more memorable evenings, as resident at a variety of venues in and around Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and beyond with fond memories as lead DJ at Ollies Bar Ascot hosting Soul, Disco, Rare Groove and Jazz Funk as well as the warm up to some world class acts, meeting the now Mrs B at said venue I’ve also inherited a real Soul music collector as a brother-in-law (a bonus at dodgy family parties).

With a very eclectic CV having had the honour as MC for the England Senior team at the Stadium of Light and Wembley Stadium, Pitch Side for Reading FC, Masters Football (UK & Asia), The GB Ice Hockey team and Elite League playoffs my affection for Soul, Disco, RnB and Funky Anthems remains my passion and devotion.
