Groovemaster Johnson

Luton Airport (London), Luton, Bedfordshire, UK

The name ‘Groovemaster’ Johnson has always been synonymous with soulful, bumpy dance music. Over 30 years in the music industry, originating from the UK, he made the move to Holland as a teenager. Over the years he has evolved into one of Holland’s most respected & legendary DJs spinning everything from funk, jazz-dance and house to hiphop, UKG/Bass, global world grooves and so much more. In 1987, under the Soho Connection banner, he introduced House music to the Netherlands collaborating with ID Magazine, Family Funktion & Shake ‘n’ Fingerpop from London. 10 years on and again he was at the forefront, introducing the UK Garage sound to the Netherlands. The ‘Groovemaster’ released several compilation CDs and collaborated on underground tracks. He also set up his Bubble Club, he held a residency at Amsterdam’s legendary Club RoXY amongst many others and he hosted weekly radio shows, played festivals, DJ-ed sets with live musicians and basically the list just goes on and on.

I have about 11 mixes up now, all varying styles (= house / soul_boogie_funk / world_electronica_global / UK_Garage and eclectic mixes of all these genres) going through a variety of tempos & more coming soon.

The mixes on this page are either quite recent or they could be older mixes from the vault....and all mixes are live sessions. Some of my earliest mixes were played from vinyl.
